Junior High Math with Ms. Nunez or Ms. Garcia (visiting teacher)
Using STAR test scores and past class performance, students will be placed in the Math class that best suits their level of readiness. For students who are ready, the course will help to prepare students for the math skills that they will need as they move into Algebra & Pre-Algebra courses. Students will build a more solid foundation with positive and negative integers, solving equations & inequalities (one-step, two-step & multi-step) & algebraic reasoning. For students who need more foundational support, the course is designed to help solidify understanding of positive and negative integers, solving basic equations and inequalities, order of operations, and proportionality for more general math readiness. There will be numerous opportunities to learn, reinforce, and practice skills and problem solve through a variety of fun and engaging actives. Supplies needed: one spiral notebook & pencil.
 
Junior High Reading & Writing with Ms. Garcia (visiting teacher)
Using STAR test scores and class performance, students will be placed in the Reading/Writing class that best suits their level of readiness. For students who are ready, the course will help to build a more solid foundation with reading comprehension using different text structures and writing response organization. Through daily writing practice, students will become confident in their ability to organize their thoughts in a constructive and efficient way. For students who need more foundational support, the course is designed to help build a more solid foundation with reading comprehension, understanding of vocabulary through context clues, and effective writing response structures. Through daily text analysis in both fiction and nonfiction, students will strengthen their ability to respond to text. Supplies needed: one spiral notebook, pencil/pen, highlighter, colored pencils or markers
 
Junior High Science with Mrs. Lopez
In this class, students will engage in a hands-on approach to science learning that implements the three dimensions of the new Next Generation Science Standards: Crosscutting Concepts, Science and Engineering Practices, and Disciplinary Core Ideas. Students will focus on a new phenomenon weekly and dive into investigating and understanding the relationship between science and the world around them. Supplies needed: one spiral notebook, pencil, highlighter, scissors and a glue stick

Study Skills with Ms. Nunez
This course is meant to prepare students for the skills needed to “survive” Jr. High and build good habits that will last a lifetime. Students will take time learning about procedures and expectations that are in place at the Jr. High Level, and how to navigate through five different teachers and heavy coursework. We will focus on increasing basic skills such as organization, note taking, studying for tests, as well as time management. Supplies needed: one spiral notebook, pen, pencil and highlighters.
 
STEM & Coding with Mrs. Lopez  (for students entering Grades 4-8 in the fall & current 8th Graders)
In this class, students will create animations and games while gaining coding skills. Students will engage in hands-on learning and problem-solving throughout the course. This introductory course will build a foundation for students that will promote understanding in our technology-driven lives! Supplies needed: students MUST have an email address (NOT the school email address), one spiral notebook, pencil/pen
 
Knitting & Fiber Arts with Ms. Garcia (for students entering Grades 4-8 in the fall & current 8th Graders)
One of the oldest traditions in the world, the fiber arts are some of the most useful and beautiful mediums we use daily. Students will learn how to knit, sew for practicality, and embroider. Students will be introduced to each medium and then will pick a medium of choice to create at least one project of their own during class. All projects are their own to keep. Material fee $10
