Class Descriptions
Reading with Mr. Combes
This course will focus on fluency, comprehension, and critical analysis to works of literature and poetry.  Emphasis will be placed on comprehension and making connections among ideas and between texts.  Close reading will be practiced in order to critically analyze works and cite textual evidence.  Supplies needed: Pens (black, blue, and red) and one spiral notebook.  Texts will be provided.
Writing with Mr. Combes
In this course, the writing process i s taught with emphasis given to narrative, persuasive/augmentative, and creative writings.  A process approach is used to develop students' writing, drafting, conferencing, revising, editing and publishing become th emethod to write polished compositions.  Students' writing conventions will be augmented through analysis and peer and teacher editing.  Supplies needed: Pens (black, blue, and red) and a Composition Notebook.
Math with Ms. Nunez
This course is meant to prepare students for the math skills that they will need in Junior High. Students will build a more solid foundation with number concepts, fractions, decimals, ratios, proportions, and basic algebraic skills.  There will be numerous opportunities to learn, reinforce and practice skills and problem solve through a variety of fun and engaging activities.  Supplies needed: one spiral notebook.
Enrichment Class Choices (CHOOSE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING)
Art with Ms. Peinado
In this class, the students will study the elements and principles of Art as well as using different techniques and different mediums.  Students will discuss the different schools of Art, such as realism, abstract, impressionism and cubism.  Students will tap into their creative side and participate in drawing, painting, sculpting and designing.  Materials fee $15.
Origami with Ms. Nunez
This fun course is meant to explore your child's creative side while using hands-on skills and thinking creatively.   With the use oif a single sheet or multiple sheets of paper, students will learn different origami folding techniques to create 2D and 3D objects.
Readers' Theater with Ms. Valencia
Building on the student's existing reading level, this fun and creative class will incorporate acting and reading comprehension.  Students will practice vocabulary, reading scripts aloud, and present a final production.
PE with Mr. Combes
In this class, students will develop their motor skills through various physical activities, while also working to improve their collaboration skills with their peers through objective based games.  The basics of healthy living, such as the importance of a well-balanced diet and regular exercise, will be discussed and researched.   Supplies needed: Athletic attire and a great attitude!
