Class Descriptions
Reading with Ms. Peinado
In this class, students will embrace elements of comprehension, oral language, vocabulary, decodable text, listening comprehension and informational test.  Student will reinforce their text-based comprehension through predicting, comparing and contrasting, summarizing, context clues and author's purpose - all skills that will help them be successful in the 2nd and 3rd grades.  Supplies needed:  one spiral notebook, and $5 for the copy of the novel, Charlotte's Web.

Writing with Ms. Peinado
In this class, students will reinforce their grammar, punctuation and proofreading skills.  Writing instruction will focus on sentence structure and paragraph construction using the 6+1 Writing Traits in four writing styles.  Students will learn the writing process through Writer's Workshop; prewriting, drafting, revision, editing and publishing - skills that will help them be better writers in the 2nd and 3rd grades.  Supplies needed: one spiral notebook and a two-pocket folder without prongs.
Math with Ms. Huerta
Let's exercise our brains and become master "MATHLETES."  This class is designed to "work out" your math skills and prepare for the upcoming school year.  Students will review their math skills from the previous school year by continuing to work on manipulatives, problem-solving and applying math skills to solve real world situations.  Supplies needed: one spiral notebook and a pencil with an eraser.
Enrichment Class Choices - FOR 2ND GRADE ONLY
Art with Ms. Huerta
This exciting mixed media art class will allow students to use various materials and techniques to explore their creativity while learning about the processes that go into each activity.  Students will use their imaginations, experiences, talents, skills and the fundamentals of art to create their own organic and original pieces.  From painting to ceramics to creating paper lanterns, students will create and personalize individual pieces to take home and share with loved ones.  Material fee $15.
Enrichment Class Choices - FOR 3RD GRADE ONLY
Art with Ms. Peinado
In this class, the students will study the elements and principles of Art as well as using different techniques and different mediums.  Students will discuss the different schools of Art, such as realism, abstract, impressionism and cubism.  Students will tap into their creative side and participate in drawing, painting, sculpting and designing.  Material fee $15.
Enrichment Class Choices - FOR 2ND & 3RD GRADE 
Drama with Mrs. B (for students entering Grades 1-5 in the fall)
Getting up in front of people and acting is not always easy, especially for children who are shy or uncertain of themselves. But doing it once can help them get past their stage fright. The more they act, the more confidence they will gain in themselves. They will see that acting is something they can conquer. The class will incorporate creative thinking and acting skills to help boost public speaking abilities as well as the fostering of new relationships. Students will work need to work together in order for our productions a success.
Science Fun with Mrs. Blanco (for students entering Grades Kindergarten-3 in the fall)
In this exciting class, students will experience various hands-on, exploratory science activities. These summer science experiments and activities will bring science to life and make learning science fun!
